Jaw Ache is pain in the jaw joint or muscles. The jaw joint, also referred to as temporomandibular joint or TMJ, is made up of bones below the mouth and bones just above the mouth. Usually injury or biting into very hard structures or extreme stretching of the joint causes jaw pain. Symptoms are:
• Popping sensation
• Tooth pain
• Chewing difficulty
• Tenderness and aching of the face or neck
HOW IS JAW ACHE DIAGNOSED?
Diagnosis is usually done by a general physician who would examine your jaws and also do X-ray to check for internal damage.
HOW IS JAW ACHE TREATED?
The treatment involves taking pain medications to alleviate the pain. Wearing a night guard can also be effective as it prevents tooth clenching that may further aggravate the condition.
