Bedwetting is involuntary urination during the night while sleeping. It can be a symptom of underlying disease mostly in children. Bedwetting in children need parental attention and support. The causes for bedwetting differ in all cases. Child's overall physical and emotional health, chronic illness and/or emotional and physical abuse may be the cause of bedwetting.
HOW IS BEDWETTING DIAGNOSED?
A paediatrician diagnoses bedwetting by a complete history and thorough physical examination of the child. A urinalysis and urine culture support the diagnosis. Further radiological diagnoses is used for secondary bedwetting
HOW IS BEDWETTING TREATED?
Medication like Desmopressin or Imipramine may be prescribed by the pediatrician to help deal with bedwetting. Also, the doctor may ask you to refrain from giving the child fluids one hour before bedtime.
