When the abnormal brain signals leads to improper functioning of the body, then this disorder is popularly known as Seizures. Most common cause is known to be Epilepsy, a nervous system disorder. There are basically two types of Seizures namely generalized and partial. The symptoms are based on the type. Some of the signs observed in case of generalized seizures are muscle rigidity, unconsciousness, stiffness, sporadic, repetitive or rhythmic jerks, loss of muscle tone, etc. Some of the partial seizure symptoms include abnormal sensation in eyesight, hearing or touch, mental disturbances that affects memory & emotions, loss of consciousness, convulsions, etc.
HOW IS SEIZURES DIAGNOSED?
The neurologist may suggest conducting MRI or CT scan, lumbar puncture, EEG test followed by various blood & physical examinations.
HOW IS SEIZURES TREATED?
Anticonvulsant drugs are prescribed by the doctor. Surgery is also recommended for certain patients. For children, the doctors might recommend ketogenic diet that has been proved to be quite beneficial in treating this syndrome.
