RENAL CELL CARCINOMA
Kidney cancer is also known as renal cell carcinoma, it is the occurrence of one or many tumours in one or both kidneys. Initial stages of this disease does not produce any signs or symptoms but as the cancer progresses the person might develop a lump in the side, stomach or lower back. Blood in the urine, lower back pain, fever and high levels of calcium in the blood are other indicators of this disorder.
HOW IS RENAL CELL CARCINOMA DIAGNOSED?
An oncologist would do a biopsy and ultrasound to check for this cancer. Besides this, they can also do urine tests.
HOW IS RENAL CELL CARCINOMA TREATED?
Treatment of Renal Cell Carcinoma includes surgery in form of removal of a part or complete kidney. Depending on how far the disease has spread, more extensive surgery may be needed to remove surrounding tissue, lymph nodes and adrenal gland. In addition, radiation therapy, biologic therapy and chemotherapy is done to kill the cancer cells.
