Oral or oropharyngeal cancer will usually show up as sores in the mouth along with other symptoms like red and white patches on the gums. These sores and patches usually do not heal, which is one of the ways of recognising this kind of cancer. Unexplained weight loss and fatigue will also be experienced by patients suffering from this kind of cancer.
HOW IS OROPHARYNGEAL CANCER DIAGNOSED?
A physical examination followed by a biopsy of the affected area would be advised to confirm diagnosis of oropharyngeal cancer. Ultrasound scans and tests on the lump formed on neck would help in ruling out any other disorders or diseases.
HOW IS OROPHARYNGEAL CANCER TREATED?
Treatment may begin with radiation therapy followed by chemotherapy. A surgery may be needed to remove the cancer lump.
