Chalazion is a small bump that appears on your eyelid due to a blocked oil gland. It can develop either on the upper or the lower eyelid and usually disappears within a month without any treatment. History of chalazion and unclean hands are common causes of chalazion. Symptoms are:
• Tender spot on your eyelid
• A hard lump on eyelid
• Increased tearing of eyes
• Blurred or obstructed vision
• Light sensitivity
HOW IS CHALAZION DIAGNOSED?
A close physical examination by an ophthalmologyspecialist will help in identifying the condition. The doctor may check your medical history and ask you questions on your symptoms to be sure if the lump represents a chalazion or a stye.
HOW IS CHALAZION TREATED?
The treatment for Chalazion varies from patient to patient.
Your doctor may give you either steroid eye drop or antibiotics to treat it. In many cases, it will go away on its own.
A warm compress to the eyelids several times a day can reduce swelling by softening the oils in the blocked gland, which should help the lump to drain on its own. Homeopathic massages can also drain it.
Surgeries are considered in extreme cases
DID YOU KNOW?
In very rare cases, Chalazion is caused by a skin cancer and is important for early diagnosis
