A brain injury is any injury occurring in the brain. Brain injuries can be classified by several parameters. Primary and secondary brain injury are ways to classify the injury processes that occur in brain injury, while focal and diffuse brain injury are ways to classify the extent or location of injury in the brain.
HOW IS BRAIN INJURY DIAGNOSED?
It's called the “invisible injury” for a reason: brain injury is notoriously difficult to diagnose and treat. The diagnosis of brain injury involves (CAT scans) looking for signs of brain injury, either through scanning devices like computer assisted tomography (CAT scans), magnetic resonance imaging (MRIs), and X-rays, or through screening tools to measure areas of a person's speech, movement, memory, and thought. The people most qualified to diagnose a brain injury are emergency room doctors, neurologists, and neuropsychologists.
HOW IS BRAIN INJURY TREATED?
Mild brain injuries do not require any treatment except rest and over the counter pain killers and close monitoring for any persistent or worsening of symptoms. For severe brain injuries emergency treatment followed by treatment to damaged parts of brain are carried out.
