Adenomyosis is the condition of the uterus where the inner lining of the uterus breaks through the muscle lining of the uterus. The condition may be localized at a single spot or through the entire uterus. Some women do not experience any symptoms of adenomyosis; however, common symptoms are heavy and prolonged menstrual bleeding, severe menstrual cramps and bloating or abdominal pressure. Diagnosis of Adenomyosis can be done by: • TVS • MRI • Endometrial biopsy • Sonohysterography • Hysteroscopy
HOW IS ADENOMYOSIS TREATED?
The treatment starts with anti-inflammatory drugs and hormones in the form of birth control pills. The surgical removal of the uterus is the last resort but has to be done in severe cases.
