Piles are of two types - external and internal. External piles are mostly dry, do not bleed. Bleeding is common in internal piles.

This is a common misconception. Piles is one of the causes of bleeding from the rectum, many other diseases like rectal polyp, ulcerative colitis, rectal varix, colon cancer may cause fresh bleeding from the rectum.

Spicy food, junk food, regular intake of meat, alcohol may cause piles. On the contrary, green leafy vegetables, buttermilk, plenty of oral fluid, seasonal juicy fruits reduces the chance of piles formation.

Long-standing constipation increases the shearing force on hemorrhoidal plexus which often cause piles. The long-standing loose motion may also cause piles.
