Lung Cancer - Who Can Be At Risk?

Chest X-ray can not detect early Lung cancer. Low dose CT scans help to detect lung cancer at any stage. The mortality rate is greatly reduced when the patient is subjected to a low dose CT scan instead of any other method of diagnosis. While chest X-ray is useful to track the treatment of lung cancer, it is not useful for diagnosis of lung cancer as it is not clearly seen in the early stages.

All the aforementioned reasons point towards predisposition of a person to lung cancer. Immediate cessation of smoking at any age reduces the risk of cancer. Drastically reducing cigarette smoking makes it easier to ultimately quit smoking

While it is a myth that smoking helps one to lose weight, the initially lost weight is quickly piled on within a few days. The weight is lost as nicotine is an appetite suppressant. To lose weight, eat healthy and work out. Relying on smoking to lose weight will never really help.

While the individual is still at risk for cancer, the risk is greatly reduced since the individual is away from the risk factor that could have increased the cancer risk. The cancer risk decreases drastically for those who quit smoking or consuming any form of tobacco.
