Excessive Tearing - What Causes It?

A scratch may look tiny, but it can cause a number of problems in the long run. This is known as Corneal Abrasion. Dust or sand particles may enter your eye, and it may cause itching. If you rub your eyes with the dust or the sand particle inside your eye, it will lead to a scratch. Corneal Abrasion is responsible for itching, redness of the eye, blurred vision, sensitivity to the light, and tearing of the eyes. Corneal Abrasion may also be caused by the contact lens that you are wearing. If dust or sand gets into your eyes, flush them with water instead of rubbing or trying to take it out. The water will aid the particle to get out of your eyes.

The main cause of the excess production of tears in the eyes is due to the blocked tear ducts. Many people are born with tear ducts that are underdeveloped. And there are others who have blocked ducts which are formed due to inflammations. This may cause the tear ducts to become very narrow, and the tears may build up in the ducts. The stagnant tears can lead to infections and swellings. Try not to touch or rub your eyes when they are itching as this may lead to more watering of the eyes.

Ectropion is the condition of the eye in which the eyelid of a patient s eye may turn outward. A possible cause for excessive tearing, in cases like these, the doctors prefer doing surgery. In this surgery, the doctors tighten the tendon which is responsible for holding the outer eyelid in place. If the excessive tearing is due to an infection, your doctor will prescribe antibacterial medications to treat the infection.

It is necessary to stay away from the allergens and take precautions when you are entering an environment that contains an allergen. Allergens cause your eyes to become red and itchy, thereby producing excessive tears. Wearing goggles or a sunglass always helps to protect your eyes from the allergens.
