In the case of many relationships, both women and men tend to use a sexual encounter to bring a relationship to an end which empowers them and gives them the strength to call it off. However, when one partner admits to the other that he or she cheated on them, the other partner is also tempted to do the same to return the favor as a form of revenge.

However, women need to be courted on a regular basis from time to time to keep their interests alive and to feel appreciated in the relationship. Most men tend to take their women for granted which leads to feelings of abandonment. In this case, they may choose to look for emotional support and appreciation elsewhere, which may turn into physical cheating.

Emotional intimacy may also be considered as cheating and in fact women have been known to be bigger emotional cheats than physical cheats. However, many emotional relationships also turn physical as they become more intense. Emotional cheating is also considered cheating as some of the innermost thoughts which you are only supposed to share with your significant other is also shared with another person.
