Shoulder Pain Radiating Down Arm

I am suffering in pain that's is started from neck and going to left back shoulder and finally in heart side. I am tall girl 5.11 height and thyroid problem. please help me as soon as possible.

This is cervical pain (neck pain) and that's the reason the pain radiates until the shoulder blades. If you keep ice that would help and along side you can do hot water fermentation. You shall use cervical collar which would help you to reduce the radiating pain ie. Due to the nerve compression. You have to go for traction and also you can do ift. Please consult the near by therapist for quick relief. Since you have pain for more than 10 years it is suggestible to go for cervical muscle strengthening exercise. Use collar will definitely be helpful for him to maintain the good posture. And also cervical pillow can be used which might make you to have better posture of the shoulder neck and arm. Neck tilt: from the sitting position, tilt your head down so your chin touches your chest. Hold this position for 5 second s. Return to the starting position and repeat. Do this five times. Side-to-side neck tilt. From the same starting position, tilt you neck toward one shoulder, leading with your ear. Hold for 5 seconds and then return to the starting position. Do this five times on each side. Neck turn. Look straight ahead, then turn your head to one side, keeping your chin at the same level. Do this five times on each side. Neck stretch. Holding the rest of your body straight, push your chin forward, stretching your throat. Hold for 5 seconds. From the same starting position, push your chin backward and hold for 5 seconds. Do the forward and backward stretch five times each. If any of these exercises cause severe pain or weakness in your hands or arms, stop right away and talk with your doctor.

I have done mri of cervical spine, report says, straightening of cervical spine is seen with mild canal narrowing at c4-c5 & c5- c6, i.v.disc level. Features of early degeneration with posteriorly protruded c5-c6. Have constant pain in right arm and right neck, just below the ear towards the shoulder. Not able to understand what has happened. please suggest a way forward.

Hope my suggestions will help you as you mentioned your problem is pain in cervical region with pain radiating to your right upper limb also you have loss of cervical curve (straight spine) and mri indicating you have cervical disc problem. Well at your age it is completely reversible and cured easily with physical therapy and proper posture correction. I suggest you following 1. Rest and posture correction: take rest if possible for a week and also avoid sitting slouch for long time and sit on chair with back rest, straight upright 2. Apply hot pack thrice day for 15 min 3. Apply local ointment like volini 4. Avoid using too many pillows during sleep 5. Most important is do head retraction exercise (google it) in lying in bed as well as sitting on chair every two hourly in day for week if no improvement in one week than suggest you to consult local physiotherapist for further help. If you show improvement than continue for another two weeks thank you.

If you have leg pain then you have to rule out the causes for having leg pain. First of all check your weight and your haemoglobin levels, as anaemia always leads to the symptoms of being tired and also having leg pain though there are no issues with the knee joint or back pain. If not if the pain radiates down the back of thigh and legs then it might be due to sciatica. Kindly consult the nearby physiotherapist. Hope you recover soon from the leg pain. You can follow these measures: one keep a pillow right under the knee while sleeping, next is you can keep ice in the painful area for about 5--10 minutes, if pain still persists you can stretch your body by twisting the waist on both sides how we used to do in the school drill similarly you can try which will help you relax as well will reduce the pain. It looks like you are is important to check that. Anemia always leads to the symptoms of being tired and also having back / leg pain though there may not be any pathological reasons for back pain. •standing hamstring stretch: place the heel of your injured leg on a stool about 15 inches high. Keep your knee straight. Lean forward, bending at the hips until you feel a mild stretch in the back of your thigh. Make sure you do not roll your shoulders and bend at the waist when doing this or you will stretch your lower back instead of your leg. Hold the stretch for 15 to 30 seconds. Repeat 3 times. •cat and camel: get down on your hands and knees. Let your stomach sag, allowing your back to curve downward. Hold this position for 5 seconds. Then arch your back and hold for 5 seconds. Do 3 sets of 10. •quadruped arm/leg raise: get down on your hands and knees. Tighten your abdominal muscles to stiffen your spine. While keeping your abdominals tight, raise one arm and the opposite leg away from you. Hold this position for 5 seconds. Lower your arm and leg slowly and alternate sides. Do this 10 times on each side pelvic tilt: lie on your back with your knees bent and your feet flat on the floor. Tighten your abdominal muscles and push your lower back into the floor. Hold this position for 5 seconds, then relax. Do 3 sets of 10. •partial curl: lie on your back with your knees bent and your feet flat on the floor. Tighten your stomach muscles. Tuck your chin to your chest. With your hands stretched out in front of you, curl your upper body forward until your shoulders clear the floor. Hold this position for 3 seconds. Don't hold your breath. It helps to breathe out as you lift your shoulders up. Relax. Repeat 10 times. Build to 3 sets of 10. To challenge yourself, clasp your hands behind your head and keep your elbows out to the side. •gluteal stretch: lying on your back with both knees bent, rest the ankle of one leg over the knee of your other leg. Grasp the thigh of the bottom leg and pull that knee toward your chest. You will feel a stretch along the buttocks and possibly along the outside of your hip on the top leg. Hold this for 15 to 30 seconds. Repeat 3 times. •extension exercise: lie face down on the floor for 5 minutes. If this hurts too much, lie face down with a pillow under your stomach. This should relieve your leg or back pain. When you can lie on your stomach for 5 minutes without a pillow, then you can continue with the rest of this exercise.

I am suffering from pain in the shoulder and in the neck and I have mri done from sgpgi lucknow. The study shows 1. Disc osteophytes are noted at c 4/5 and c 5/6 level with effacement of anterior csf colum spinal canal diameter 8.7 mm c 5/6 level 2. Vertebral bodies show loss of fatty marrow 3. In vertebral disc are normal in signal intensity and height 4.0 cervical and upper dorsal cord is normal in signal intensity 5. Paravertebral soft tissues appear normal 6. Cv junction is normal 7. No evidence of abnormal contrast / enhancement fluids noted impression: cervical spondylosis as described my doctor has prescribed me maxgalin 75 mg gabapin 100 mg orofer xt shelcal 500 mg calcium sachet lunch and dolo my problem is that I also suffer from internal hemorrhoids and if I eat this medicine then it gets worse and I suffer from constipation and then create a problem for me as it might bleeding please help me I am a student and I am unable to study and I studies in bananas hindu university please help me I am unable to study.

Hi doctor, I am 63 yrs, diabetic and hypertensive, I am suffering from pain which originates some where from the root of my left shoulder or to be very precise near heart and goes through the entire left arm ending at tip of my left hand finger, other fingers are not effected. Pressing pain area gives me relief, stitching arm upwards pains unable to stretch fully feels weakness in left arm like other day in gym I was able to lift 5 kg weight by right hand where as left could lift hardly 2.5 kg. Is some nerves problem or orthopaedic problem? Is my diabetes the reason? Your comments and line of treatment.

It may be radiculopathy, also commonly referred to as pinched nerve, refers to a set of conditions in which one or more nerves are affected and do not work properly (a neuropathy). This can result in pain (radicular pain), weakness, numbness, or difficulty controlling specific muscles.[1] in a radiculopathy, the problem occurs at or near the root of the nerve, shortly after its exit from the spinal cord. However, the pain or other symptoms often radiate to the part of the body served by that nerve. For example, a nerve root impingement in the neck can produce pain and weakness in the forearm. Likewise, an impingement in the lower back or lumbar-sacral spine can be manifested with symptoms in the foot. The radicular pain that results from a radiculopathy should not be confused with referred pain, which is different both in mechanism and clinical features. Kindly refer a orthopaedician and go for nearby physiotherapy treatment.

A few things to remember before swinging in to exercises: •stop any exercise if you have more shoulder pain. It may be too soon for you to try. •watch your form. Exercising incorrectly can also cause or worsen shoulder problems. •warm up, even before deep stretching. Light shoulder rolls, gentle movements, or even a warm shower are all ways to warm up your muscles before exercise and stretching. Pendulum stretch for range of motion•stand and bend at the waist. •let your arm on the injured side hang straight down. •keep your neck relaxed. •move your arm in a circle up to 20 times. •do once or more times in a day. Overhead shoulder stretch•sit or stand to do this shoulder stretch. •intertwine your fingers in front of you. •bend your elbows and raise your arms above your head. You can also place your hands on your head or behind it. •gently squeeze your shoulder blades together to move your elbows back. •continue for up to 20 repetitions. Repeat 5 to 10 times a day.
