You can get over this disorder if you combine therapy with medication. Medication alone will not resolve this condition. In counseling, you will learn skills, tools, and techniques to cope with the rituals and especially to deal with the fear. Please take your parents with you to meet the counselor to determine the possible developmental issues that may have contributed to this condition. Your mom's death was only a trigger. This is a fear-based condition and for some reason, you have not been dealing with this childhood fear which has now developed into these repetitive adaptations to seem to need it for normal functioning. The behavior will then become based on magical thinking and certain rituals will become necessary to do normal things making you believe that either the frequency or the ritual is important to its success. This of course is a fallacy but there will come a time that even if told the truth, your belief will defy any logic and you will continue behaving like that even if it cripples you in your daily routines. It only appears that some other force is behind these behaviors and that you are compelled to act in this fashion helplessly. That is not true but no one can convince you of anything different. The obsession is a repeating thought pattern with no meaningful outcome, and the compulsiveness is the need to act on those obsessions also in a repeated behavior pattern as though you just cannot help yourself. This is all driven by fear and when you are frustrated with it, you will escalate anger over it. Doubt, insecurity, uncertainty, and lack of firm memory will all plague you and increase stress. There are certain behavioral techniques to be implemented and if they work you may get out of this condition rather easily. 10 years without counseling can still be made up if you are cooperative and work sincerely in your recovery.

Perhaps I have to repeat myself: don't ever self-medicate. These doses that you are taking and changing frequently must be approved or prescribed by the psychiatrist for your own safety and to gain the full benefits of the medicines. Clonil is an excellent prescription but you must adhere to the doctor's prescription. If that does not work as desired, then medication has to be introduced, and in combination with counseling much work can be achieved.

Hi lybrate-user obsessive compulsive disorder is increasing now a days and it is some what a resistant one particularly in moderate to severe levels. Its better to make an evaluation of types of symptoms and severity from a trainned psychologist. Cbt - (cognitive behaviour therapy) is a well known psychotherapeutic strategy which will help you a lot in improving your condition can be availed even online. Take care and all the best.

Hi lybrate-user! sorry to know the difficulty your son is facing I could understand the importance of what a mother could do you need to give him the strength, energy and support him in handling this situation of fear. Probably would be the after effect of the medications just wait for few days .may be a week or so. If the symptoms still persist it is advisable that the psychotherapy and counseling would be of great benefit to overcome this. Combined with meditation and yoga. Take care of your son.

He can have the child with these medications. But he needs to attend the review with his psychiatrist regularly if he can manage the family, social and occupational responsibilities before having the child. Good luck.

Yes, both meds help. Resperidone has sedative effect but he should get over it after few days. Please note if he not on medications then his symptoms will make him difficult to concentrate on studies.

Hello, it depends on patient to patient. But on an average medication start showing their results within a month and within 2-3 months 80 percent of the symptoms are controlled. Total duration for which medication is taken is 6 months after the symptoms are gone.

Hello, there are much better medications available for ocd that shows respose within a month. Also read exposure and response prevention therapy and apply it on yourself with the help of your family member or psychiatrist. You do not need to carry this problem when such promising and quick treatment is available.
