Underwent spine surgery 1 year back and takes pain killers for back pain like diclofenac, Paracetamol, Ezact Mr. Her kidney function is impaired as per the reports done by Lybrate. Her eGFR = 36 blood urea nitrogen =40.57 creatinine = 1.4 bun/sr creatinine ratio 28.98 Can she continue taking olmezest and amlodipine for her hypertension or does she need to shift to some other anti hypertensive? She has stopped taking pain killers now except for occasional Tramadol tabs. Kindly advise.

Hi lybrate-user, I appreciate you seeking help for your mother. Well, her hypertension needs to be controlled as otherwise it can damage the kidneys. I would advise that you consult a nephrologist who can monitor not only her kidney health but also recommend treatment as appropriate to control high BP. Long term usage of analgesics are best avoided. She can apply 'Rumalaya Gel' topically 2 to 3 times daily, followed by heat treatment for 15 - 20 minutes, preferably with a hot water bag or heating pad as appropriate. She needs to streamline her diet & lifestyle, avoid high calorie foods including fast foods etc all and stay well hydrated unless her doc advises otherwise. Sugar and salt needs to be restricted on a day to day basis. Additionally, she should de-stress/ walk regularly and stay relaxed. Hope this helps. Take care and all the very best. Sincerely
