I am having diabetes for past 10 years. Fasting sugar is between 95-105. Post lunch is 140-160. Recently I checked Hba1c -5.8! In the month of August it is 6.9. Serum creatinine is 1.2. In the month of August it is 0.9. Seems to be kidney damaging. How to prevent.

Rise of Serum Creatinine may reveal several issues. It can occur due to decreased water intake, infection, increased exercise, high blood pressure, diuretic medicines etc. You should check 24 hr urine albumin or microalbumin levels and recheck these levels within next 3 to 6 months. Also get urine routine microscopy and ultrasound of kidneys & urinary tract. You should also get a fundus test of eyes to rule out diabetic retina disease. With such a tight Hba1c control, it is required to rule out recurrent hypoglycemia, which can occur asymptomatically. If present you may require change in diabetic medicines. Monitor your BP and also keep it below 130/80 mm Hg at most times to prevent progression of kidney dysfunction. Also ask your doctor to consider adding ACE Inhibitor or ARB medicine to slow further kidney damage, if not contraindicated.
