I am a 53 years old female having hypothyroid and hypertension. I am under medication. Pl suggest me diet to reduce weight as I am 68 kgs. I crave for white rice. As per nutritionist I use coconut oil for cooking.

Coconut oil is high in saturated fats. So not to eb used on a regular basis. Instaed an oil combination of mustard oil, sesame seed/rice bran oil is helpful in achieveing the desired fatty acid ratio. 1. Have small frequent meals at 2-3 hrs interval instead of 3-4 large meals only 2. Drink 2-3 litres water daily 3. Avoid table salt, junk, fried, processed, preserved, sugary foods & drinks, alcohol. 4. Replace simple carbs (sugar, jaggery, honey, maida, sago, cornflour, arrowroot flour, potato, biscuit, cake, white rice, white bread) with complex carbs (whole fruits, vegetables, salads, whole grains-atta, dalia, suji, oats, millets, barley, brown rice, atta bread, quinoa, whole legumes-sprouts, soyabean, pseudo cereals-rajgira, makhana, & nuts, oilseeds). 5. Avoid skipping meals 6. Have early & light dinner. 7. Sleep & wake up early. Have a sound sleep 8. Brisk walk daily for 1 hr. 9. Walk/ cycle instead of taking transport, take stairs instead of lift/ escalator. 10. Cut down on total oil consumption. 11. Avoid sleeping in afternoon 12. Take 15 mins light walk post main meals. Avoid sitting for an hr at a stretch continuously. 13. If you can not do without white rice in meals, then make it once a day & reduce the quantity. Use a combination of other cereals in same meal-ex: multigrain atta roti/ bajra roti. Include salads/stew & vegetables in large quantity in all main meals. Have low fat curd, sprouts/soyabean/nutrella, /fish/chicken/egg (not fried) in the same meal. This way you can bring down the GI of the meal. 14. Have a coconut water (w/o cream) daily. 15. Replace cooking salt with rock salt & cut salt in cooking to half. Use lemon, vinegar, herbs to enhance the flavor of your foods instead.
