I am 59, male. Diabetic for past 9 years. On Metformin, sitagliptin atorvastatin, glimepiride,Voglibose. The Blood Sugar was Fasting 180-220 an PP 280 to320 .BP is 120/80. No other complications. Two months back the DOCTOR advised me for Insulin 10 units BD. As I am alone staying in my house (Divorcee) I thought of going for AYURVEDA Medicine advertised in TV (ADVERTISEMENT states that it approved by Central Govt Health ministry AYUSH. The medicine name is IME -9 .But the level of Sugar now increased to 331-521. Suggest me Which system will suit. If I go for insulin injections how long I should take. Will it affect my Health after sometime. Kindly give the clarification as I am confused. My urination is frequent and thirst is also there.

Hi Lybrate user. U hav done a mistake as all ppl do. Be sure in your practices and treatments. Trust your doctor and dietitian. Guess you r following a strict diet. In this case. As for as now. Do follow your diet and exercises strictly. Do not take sugars in any form even a smaller amount may harm your health. Consult your diabetologist for insulin adjusments. As for as diet is concerned. Take wheat products like roti chappati wheat upma wheat porride for breakfast n dinner. For lunch go for more vegetables and a greean leafy vegetables as must than your rice amount.in between your meals. Take healthy snacks like salads, fruits, sprouts, avoiding junk foods. Follow any one medication. Better be on same allopathy treatment.

Dear Lybrate User, Please treat your problem as medical emergency. Please stop taking these TV medicines immediately and visit a proper physician. There are a lot of fake medicines being sold on TV under the garb of Approved by XYZ. Your blood sugar is too high. If it continues like this your organs will suffer since they are deprived of essential glucose. You have to follow a proper diabetic diet with more fiber and low GI foods. Please also consult a dietician in your town who can give you a proper diet plan. Please take these steps immediately and don't believe in TV ads.

Take 20 units of insulin lantus at bed time. Stop sitagliptin, voglibose. Continue rest medicine. This will be most suitable for you and chances of hypoglycemia will be less. You can increase or decrease dose of insulin as per your reports.
