My mother had ultrasound of her neck today in which the doctor said her thyroid gland is increasing and its tissues are coming out. Can anyone please help me with this that why is it happening? My mom has to go for two blood tests as well yet then the doctor will tell about the treatment. Since 1.5 months my mom feels tired after working, has swelling on right side of her neck and it pains in the ear too when she tries to sleep that side. No internal pain but it pains outside and it has gradually increased. Please tell me the precautions that we should take and also is it serious? Would be very helpful. Thanks.

Hi, If thyroid gland size is increasing, it may be due to goitre formation. So it is necessary to get a thyroid assay done. The result will help in a correct diagnosis of the condition. It can be Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, a simple goitre or thyrotoxicosis. Only assay will help in finding out First get the thyroid assay done and come back with the results then only I will be able to guide. Thanks.
