Human body stores about 2000 calories. That is about one days worth of reserve in the form of glucose/glycogen which is basically a form of Carbohydrates. This is the quickest source of energy for the body. Fat stores are used next after this Carb store is finished. However there are different opinions about which point the Fats are burnt. Regardless of this issue, the fact remains that all the excess calories Carb/Fats have to be burnt if we want to reduce/maintain weight. As an athlete we should not be too concerned about this sequence/ratio of burning. Same is the case with eating before or after workout. It won't matter. Its good to eat little food/fruit an hour before workout so that you have sufficient energy to do the workout. Rest of the food you can have comfortably after you do your workout.
