I am 24 years old height 5'7" weight is 90 kg and obese. I was diagnosed with neurocysticercosis last and is on medication levipil 250 twice daily. Now I am preparing for upsc exams but under the constraints given by doctors like no late night study. But sometimes because of unavoidable reasons I had to take light breakfast and by some self precaution for obesity I take less food for lunch and dinner but comprises of vegetables in a good amount. But the day I have lite breakfast I start feeling dangerously weak until I take lunch. I feel like I am not able to stand or walk I feel like I have no strength. Now what may be the reason? Do antiepileptic medicines make us weaker because I never felt like this before I even stayed without food for a days or two during hostel life.

Hye. Thanks for the query. Maintaining body weight is not a one time effort that you try, succeed or fail or drop the actions that take you there. You are what you eat. Your weight is nothing but a balance of how much you eat and how much you burn or exercise. Understanding this art of balance will make it easy to maintain your body weight. Walking, swimming, strength training as well as eating are all calorie burning processes. Along with this if you eat sensibly; then you will see the scales move. There is no short cut to losing weight. Breakfast is the meal that keeps your glucose levels balanced and helps you begin your day with energy. Eating a healthy breakfast will let cope till the next meal. Crashing diets, eating lesser than your body needs or cutting out food groups will only cause lack of energy. Losing weight is not about just crashing your food intake but it is about eating sensibly. Depending only on vegetables will also not help because the body needs a lot more than just vegetable nutrition. You have to eat the right foods at the right time. Eat small but frequent meals. Take a glass of lime water 10 minutes before meals. Avoid long gaps in between meals. Avoid junk as far as possible. Exercise as allowed or at least stay active. Lastly be committed. Remember it's a lifestyle change and not a one time thing. It's a balanced intake that will last you longer. All the so called fad, crash diets, medicines, pills or supplements will only give you muscle and bone loss. The fats will remain as it is. So, lose that fat not muscle mass or energy. You can always contact me for a planned diet so you are moving in the right direction.

Starving is never a solution for weight reduction.. Usually crash diets crash soon. Starving after some times leads to binge eating. It is better you have balanced breakfast which includes an egg + Milk + 2 Roti/Multigrain bread and some sprouts/fruit. .. Similarly your meals should have 2 rotis with vegetable + Dal and some curd. In between you can add snacks like roast chana or fruit salad.. The key to weight reduction is balanced meals. Never stay hungry. Never crash diet.
