I am 19 year old, female.I have been suffering from stammering since childhood and normally with my family and other people I speak normally and hardly stutter but in public places when I am in situation such as in interviews, presentation etc I am hardly able to speak and sometimes the situation gets worse as I make faces while speaking and my stomach also squeezes. So recently I was thinking to join a public speaking and personality development programme but I am confused as will it help me to improve my stutter and overcome my fear or else I should see a speech therapist?

The best way is to accept your weakness and take it as a challenge. There are many people who stammer but are very successful. It's your quality of work that counts. Go slow and be positive. Take your own time. Even if you stammer a bit, you need to take it in your stride and ignore that as a small incident. Focus on your work and not on your weakness. As you practice this, you will realise that people are actually cool with your stammering. It's was your own self judgement that was hindering you. Of course you can take the help of a speech therapist as they can help you overcome your problem in a systematic way. But always begin with your self confidence. You have nothing to lose.

Hi Am sorry to hear your situation. Can understand is quite nerve wrecking n embarrassing to say the least. My dear. Every cloud has a silver lining n so has urs .as you get into trouble only when you face difficult situations. Yes you have stammering which only surfaces in anxiety provoking situations as described by u. Why not control the anxiety first. Naa rahega baans .na bajegi baansuri .if you get what I mean.
