How long root canal treatment works? I mean I heard that the cap opens and creates problems and destroy the RCT. Which leads to removal of teeth. And I checked on Google If RCT is not successfully done that may leads to some dangerous problem, is it true?

Do not worry about failure before undergoing the treatment. Only in rare cases RCT fails. In such cases it can be corrected and Re-RCT can be done. Tooth removal is the last option. So do not worry much and go for proper consultation and plan accordingly.

Dear Lybrate user, RCT involves removal of the nerve of the tooth; all the infectious debris is removed, the root canals are cleaned, filled and the tooth is protected by placement of a cap over it. For a successful RCT, the canals should be cleaned properly as any remaining debris inside causes re-infection. This is what causes failure of RCT. But all cases do not turn out to be like this. And any complication after RCT is not that dangerous. There's a solution to everything. For a successful treatment, choose a good local dentist, follow the dentist's instructions well and pursue your treatment properly.

Root canal treatment if done correctly, can last for a lifetime. Placement of a crown/cap is essential post-RCT as the tooth becomes weak and brittle. The cap is usually fixes with a strong adhesive and there is a bleak chance that it will come off. However, even if it does, you can easily get it re-fixed. Hope that helps.

Dear Lybrate User, your question is authentic. However any treatment rendered to patient is vulnerable unless patient takes care of that tooth. imagine a heart patient after undergoing bypass must follow some guidelines. similarly root canal treated and capped tooth must be taken care of after treatment. prefer endodontist for a good root canal treatment. after capping, gums of those tooth must be kept clean. otherwise exposure of RC treated tooth under gums can cause carious destruction. nowadays advanced instruments are available to take care of complications during Root canal treatment. there is nothing dangerous about it. hope u have a happy root canal treatment.

if an rct is done properly and also important is if the tooth is taken care properly by the patient the tooth will definitely last long. yes crown i.e. a cap is must after an rct as the tooth tends to become more brittle because of loss of tooth structure. if the crown gets disloged there are very much chances that the same crown can be refixed or else there is always some scope for a new one

Root canal treatment works as long as we take proper hygiene care. It may last for 7 to 8 years or as long it is maintained. Proper oral hygiene like brushing your teeth twice and flossing. Cleaning of teeth by dentist is also recommended every six months.

It is difficult to comment on this, but a properly done RCT lasts long, sometimes the crown dislodges but not very frequently, there are certain restrictions to be followed after the capping.
