You have not mentioned the type of exposure. And took any prophylaxis for it. If your positive that the source is positive for hiv. Then you need to test for hiv. In the form of antigen, viral load or antibodies to hiv depending on the time lapsed after exposure. If it's less than 28 days you may need to test for p24 antigen or hiv viral load or both of them. If it's more than 28 days you can test for hiv antibodies. Whichever may be the test performed initially and irrespective of the negative test report. You must test for hiv antibodies at 3rd, 6th and finally at 12 months. Because it will take 3 weeks to 6 months for the formation of antibodies.
