I am 54 years old. Healthy no sugar, bp, but having varicose veins on the left leg. For the last 2-3 years sometimes small wound appears and on treatment are cured. Please advise how to prevent recurring of this problem.

What you are having is stasis ulcers. They occur because there is reflux of blood down the leg from the varicose veins. The pressure of the veins in the ankle region is increased and this will cause discolouration and ulcers. Luckily for you the ulcers are healing with conservative treatment. Conservative option to prevent recurrence is to use compression stockings. These have to be worn everyday from morning to evening. During sleeping, keep legs raised on a pillow. Have frequent walks, as this helps blood pump back to the heart. Getting rid of the root cause of the veins - reflux can help to prevent recurrences. This can be done with surgery or the recent trend of endovenous laser treatment. This can give relatively permanent results.
