Unfortunately, nothing much can be done for this ailment in the form of a cure. However, he needs to have proper physiotherapy of the limbs, chest etc. He is also probably developing difficulty in using his tongue and pharyngeal musculature. He may benefit with peg - a small tube that is directly introduced into the stomach, so that he can be provided with proper nutritious feeds. All other measures for looking after patients who are bed-ridden, needs to be done. Deep breathing exercises, exercises with spirometry also help.
