I recommend that you go for a complete medical checkup and assess the damage to your respiratory system and get advice on how you can recoup from this effect. Exercise is a must but the pace and quantity must be determined on medical grounds. It is really a good thing that you have ceased with smoking because the damage is evidently showing and you can now focus on recovering as much as you can.
