I feel nerve tightness in temporal nerves, jaws and around the head I had these symptoms since 2010 when I had depression.in 2010 it got cured after taking medicines but in 2011 it again started.in 2012 I again took antidepressants for two months then these symptoms were gone for 4 months but again started. I then after six months went to psychiatrist n took medicine like dimip/depsol 75, gabapin NT, valpipchrono500.i took them for one year but did not get much relief. I then changed the doctor n he added one medicine lamitor OD. I immediately felt better. and for one year I was ok. But then it seemed that those medicines stopped working on me. I then recently took Ayurveda medicine. I felt excellent for last 5 months. But now again these medicines stopped working. Due to this nerve tightness I become depressed and I have lot of dreams so do not have sound sleep. Please suggest.

Dear lybrate-user, recurrent depressive disorder is recurrent as the name suggests. Your history also suggests the same. It comes on its own and goes away like a passing cloud on its own. Only during the depressive phase you need antidepressants allopathic or ayurvedic. They are mainly to endure the depression and to prevent suicide. It has not much of preventive value for future episodes of depression. To prevent every year depressive episode, your psychiatrist has prescribed valip chono and later lamitor od. These preventive drugs have to be taken for many years. And also they have to be taken during your normal phase also. The dose will be adjusted according to the benefit - whether every year attack has reduced, whether the severity is less, whether you spend many months in normal mood. For all these things please maintain a mood chart daily for years. Take the mood chart to psychiatrist and discuss with him/her. Nerve tightness is one of the symptoms of depression rather than cause for depression. No sound sleep also is one of the symptoms.
