You must learn to be assertive. Learn to say no when it is needed. This does not mean that you are disregarding him. Each person is made of many different aspects, rejecting a small part does not mean rejecting the entire person. So let him know that you love him dearly but you cant stand the abuse and aggression. Give him more attention when he is being nice to you. ignore him when he becomes abusive. It is important not to offend him or confront him as a person but to convey to him that your objection is to a particular act of his. You have every right to do it.
