Dear lybrate user, it appears to me that, this fear was instilled in your mind when you were a small boy. At a very young age, when we listen to ghost or crime stories, we get carried away by the content and believe entirely in the story. And without our knowledge, it impacts our mind. May be the stories you heard in your childhood have impacted you like this. Or may be in your life, you have faced/heard about some situationes where you felt weak or helpless. And you are still carrying that impact, you are still feeling weak - physically and mentally. Please understand that at the age of 17, you are full of youth and energy. This is the time to make your body stronger. Start playing some game like football, volleyball, tennis, badminton or go to gym, go for jogging, cycling, trekking. Whatever you like. But start some physical activity. Eat well. This will make your body stronger. Also, understand that, you are no more a child. You are an adult now. So you certainly have more physical power than you had earlier, hence you can protect yourself from any threat to your body. It is also necessary to make your mind stronger. If you believe in any religion/faith, follow some rituals as part of your routine. May be doing. - pooja, or reciting some shlokas etc, or try to learn yoga, meditation, pranayama. Be in the company of people with positive attitude towards life. Try to do good and be good to people. This will help you in stabilising your mind. Once you are physically and mentally stronger, you will gain more self confidence. Read about all brave and great people in the world. You will get some inspiration to face dangers, take challenges. You will also learn to win in life. Learn to take challenges. Apply the" safety net principle" - means, take calculated risks, don't take undue risks. Imagine dangerous situations and think about all the options you will have to save yourself. Slowly the fears will fade. Believe in yourself. All the best.

Most adults don't get better on their own and may require some type of treatment. The goal of phobia treatment is to reduce your anxiety and fear and to help you better manage your reactions to the object or situation that causes them. Professional treatment can help you overcome your phobia or manage it effectively so you don't become a prisoner to your fears. Talking with a trained mental health professional can help you deal with your phobias. Several types of psychotherapy may be effective. Desensitisation or exposure therapy--focuses on changing your response to the object or situation that you fear and may be helpful for phobias. Gradual, repeated exposure to the cause of your phobia may help you learn to conquer your anxiety. For example, if you're afraid of elevators, your therapy may progress from simply thinking about getting into an elevator, to looking at pictures of elevators, to going near an elevator, to stepping into an elevator. Next, you may take a one-floor ride, then ride several floors and then ride in a crowded elevator. Cognitive behavioural therapy--involves exposure combined with other techniques to learn ways to view and cope with the feared object or situation differently. You learn alternative beliefs about your fears and the impact they have on your life. There's special emphasis on learning to develop a sense of mastery and control of your thoughts and feelings. Take care.
