My mom is 80 years old has a weak heart hence very often has water retention in her lungs and is on diuretic medication on prescription. However, since 2 weeks she has been complaining of breathlessness hence her care takers have started her on oxygen intake for 1 hour a day. My concern is does she need this or how much does she need whats the side effects. Also does living 4000 ft above sea level causes more breathing difficulty for a person in this condition. Please help.

She had worsening of heart failure thats why she required oxygen. Look for the cause like low hb, infection, or for drug compliance. Better to show her to her treating cardiologist. Oxygen requirement is temporary only.
