Hi , I have been following a bad diet routine for last 6-7 months . Always eating outside. Last week I did a normal Cholesterol check and found it to be 237. Then I consulted a doctor. We did a full lipid profile where LDL found to be 182 and HDL to be 32. Alos the blood pressure was 139/88 in first reading . The second reading was 140/100 but it was taken the next day after office hours and travel . The doctor has prescribed one medicine for Cholesterol and one for BP . My question is that should I follow the medicine or there is still chance of lowering the blood pressure by lifestyle changes.

Dear lybrate-user thanks for sharing your concern. As you mentioned doctor had prescribed you medicine. That's good as preventive measure. But the levels are not too high that you should depend on medicine. Continue medicine for 3 months with close monitoring cholesterol every alternate month a d bp every 15 days after taking rest of 15 mins. Meanwhile you need lifestyle correction. 1) eat lots of citrus fruits and avacado. 2) eat lots of vegetables specially cabbage, broccoli, sprouts and tomato. 3) use low fat dairy products. 4) use lean meat and fish. 5) drink 3 -4 ltrs of normal water daily. 6) avoid fruit juices, soft drinks 7) do minimum of 30 mins brisk walking daily covering 4 kms with target heat rate between 130 -150. Let me know after 15 days of following of instructions.

Dear lybrate-user, looks like all bcz of inappropriate life style. To claim an asymptomatic person having high bp, one must have two reading of high bp 24 hrs apart. If you have already started medicine, stick to it & modify your lifestyle which includes healthy diet, regular routine & daily 40 minutes exercise.
