I had open heart bye pass surgery in appolo hospital chennai on 11april 2015. Now 40 days completed. I am 56 years old. I have no complaints except in chest bone joints when load is applied to hand. Now when can I start and ride bykes. Can I go to office now? in echo after surgery pumping efficiency is 50%. Up to what % it will improve normally for 56 years old. How long it will take.

Dear , it is very nice to hear from a gentleman who has fought a heart disease and is trying to lead an active life. Since at a younger age you have been posted for a cabg and not a ptca (angioplasty) I feel you must be having a minimum 3 vessel disease. I suggest be a bit cautious, the ejection fraction of 50% is healthy and post 3 -4 months should reach upto 60% but it again depends upon the overall health of the endocardium before and after the surgery. I suggest let your cardiac surgeon direct you on the level of exertion as he is the best person to know your case. Best of luck.
