Hi, I suffer from myopia and my both eye power is -9. My age is 46 and I am healthy. Doctor has suggested me to go for lasik surgery which can help me to get back my 20/20 vision which is not good right now. I am a bit skeptical to go for the surgery of eyes which are the most delicate part of the body. Should you suggest me whether it is risky to go for the surgery? Is it painful or not? Are there any side effects later? Please advice.

The thickness of cornea by pachymetry will guide suitability of lasik. At your age with - 9.0 d of myopia the retina should be examined for any degenerative changes or cataract. You can try contact lenses.

Considering your age I will not suggest you lasik. Even if your distance sight is corrected you would require glasses for close. There are many other complications associated with lasik. If you ever develop cataract, your myopia would be corrected. So continue with your glasses.
