The problems you are facing are commonly felt by many women after delivery. There can be many reasons for these pains and I can try to help you sum up a few important aspects that may help: 1. Have variety in your food. I. E. Try to eat different fruits, vegetables and home made eatable items having different colours. Eg. Red apple, yellow mango, green spinach. 2. Adequate rest is very important. You should have short nap (s) in the daytime as I am sure that night sleep would be disturbed. Inadequate rest is also a reason for pain. 3. Gentle yoga postures, breathing exercises, gentle stretching exercises, body massage and meditation have a great role to play both for your as well as the baby's health. These activities will help you achieve a hormonal balance soon and will positively impact the baby indirectly. 4. Delivering a baby involves undergoing lots of physical, mental and hormonal changes within a short span of time and this reverses also in some time. Go by the advise of your gynaecologist, general physician and physiotherapist and be a little patient for few more months. You will definitely get better.Â

Hello Lybrate user Thank you for sharing your concern in Lybrate. Motherhood is a special and joyous moment in every woman?s life. But this is possible if her health is taken care of during postnatal period. The postnatal period or Puerperium is called ?Sutika kala? and woman is called ?Sutika? in Ayurveda. A woman is called ?Sutika? only after the placenta is expelled during labour. The duration of ?Sutikakala? is usually 1-1/2 month (45 days). Great emphasis has been laid on post natal care i. E. Sutika Paricharya, as during this period she restores her health and strength. Ayurveda compares the condition of woman after childbirth with that of a pot filled with oil up to brim. If the pot becomes unstable, the oil spills. So, if proper care is not taken during postnatal period, her health deteriorates. According to ayurveda Vata activity is responsible for the process of child delivery. Vata will be immensely increased soon after delivery. The digestion power, hygiene and immunity will also be very low in the mother. Hence balancing Vata and strengthening the mother is very necessary. According to modern science, after delivery, the mother?s uterus starts involution (retracting back to its normal size). Lactation slowly begins, mother?s mental health will be little unstable. Importance of Post Natal Care (Sutika Paricharya) * To bring the woman's health status to the pre pregnant state, as due to growth of the baby and the pain & blood loss during delivery, there is weakness & loss of vital elements from the body. * To prevent the complaints during Sutika kala such as 1. UTI 2. Backache 3. Loss of appetite 4. Thirst 5. Anxiety 6. Anger 7. Disturbed sleep 8. Depression, etc. Ayurvedic natal care ? Oil massage: It helps to strengthen the ligaments, muscles, tendons, joints of the whole body. It soothens skin and relieves pain. ? Ghee / sesame oil ? Based on mother?s convenience in intake, ghee or sesame oil is administered in the dose of 5 ? 10 ml twice a day. But giving raw ghee as such might cause digestion problem. Hence it is traditionally advised to give the ghee along with food. ? Kashayam prepared with Vata balancing herbs like Dashamoola, Bala is administered once or twice a day in the dose of 10 ? 20 ml once or twice a day. ? Warm water or at least boiled and cooled is advised. Do?s * Daily massage with Vatahara oil eg Bala taila * Bath with warm water * Keep the breasts and perineum clean. * Pass urine every 4-6 hours * Fumigation of surroundings with guggulu, kushtha etc. * Wrap soft cotton cloth over abdomen * Proper breast feeding. Don?t?s * Anger, Anxiety, Coitus, Exercise * Irregular food intake * Stale, cold food * Cold atmosphere * Retention of urine and faeces. Rx Suddha bala taila Externally massage regularly. You are having natural problem which occur after delivery once feeding the child with mothers milk starts, mothers do develop these problems. These are due to loss of Calcium and decrease of total iron . One needs to maintain good health by adding lot of green leafy vegetables and diary products in diet. Pain in the neck is possibly due to bending your neck for feeding your baby and such strains and stresses on the neck muscles leads to Muscle spasm and even some cervical spondylitis which resulets in stretching over the nerves thus causing pain in the hands and arms. Similar thing can occur which lower back muscles and lead to pain in the legs. The culprit here is lack of calcium. You must get you Vit.D levels checked and take Vit D , Calcium and iron tablets. Do some neck muscle and lower back muscles exercises, deep breathing and walking . Have good diet and good stable mind with positive mind set such things do happen in post natal period and are not chronic and are manageable very easily with change in Life style .Â
