Most of the time I have badly cracked skin on my first fingers of both hands and I could not bend it, otherwise it cut down. It aggravates when I use hard soap. However I avoid hard soaps, but still it troubles me. I am a diabetic 47 year old. Kindly suggest someone ointment and guide.

Protect your hands. Protection is key. Wear rubber or latex gloves when you're exposed to irritants. Choose ones that are lined with cotton. The key is to wash gently. Opt for warm water -- hot water strips the skin of its natural, protecting oils. The tops of dry hands are especially parched. Some dermatologists suggest scrubbing just your palms when washing if your hands are particularly dry. Petroleum jelly (petrolatum), mineral oil, and lanolin, all of which trap water in the skin
