My mother's RBC count drops to 8 in every 8 months. She is being prepared to have a TKR this Aug. Her ESR level is around 86. She is being treated with iron tablets and vitamin powders for improve HB. I want to know why does the HB drops as soon as she stops taking the tablet.

There are two theories 1) there must be loss of blood from any site 2) there is no new hemoglobin formed from the bone marrow and we have to take judgement after clinical examination.
