Brittleness in the nail may be caused by trauma, repeated exposure to detergents and water, and excessive exposure to harsh solvents, such as those found in nail polish remover. It could be due to hypothyroidism. For dry, brittle nails, rub petroleum jelly or a cream into your nails to hold moisture around and under your nails. Get ur sr TSH done. Hope this helps u.
