Some more important information like; height, weight, obesity, whether still menstruating, any high bp and taking medicine for that, whether have congestive heart failure, whether have any kidney problem, are you very much anaemic, then it would help me to answer in a more specific way. However, in general lady in 40 years of age with active life should not have significant swelling of lower limbs on long standing. If inactivity is associated, and person leading sedentary life then even without any of above mentioned factors a person may have swelling of feet and legs on prolonged standing or sitting with leg hanging from chair, for sluggish venous return to the heart. This is called dependent oedema. Thyroid deficiency also causes such oedema but mostly non-pitting or solid type and as you are taking medicine this point is negated. So check all those points, if are negative for you then it is no problem. Yet doctors examination and advice is the perfect remedy.
