My wife (age 29) is in the fourth month of her pregnancy, she is suffering from chronic constipation (since childhood) due to which she feels mild pain in stomach (after getting pregnant) mostly after walking and sometimes even while lying. The doctor says her pain is due to constipation as all her scan reports are normal. What are the remedies for the above condition according to ayurveda? Can she drink water from a copper cup on regular basis if it is helpful? Also, What kind of eatables are avoidable in this case?

Hi Mr. Lybrate-user, I appreciate you seeking help. As I understand'lactulose' syrups are usually safer and effective in this condition unless her ob/gyn has any specific reservations. In general, however, I would advise you to discuss your wife's presenting concerns/ complaints with her ob/ gyn and seek his/ her explicit approval first before you try self medicate her. In the given context, it is advisable to take plenty of water, fibrous fruits and leafy green vegetables. However, pineapple, papaya, coffee, tea, sea foods, carbonated drinks, alcohol, greasy, fatty & high calorie food stuffs including fast foods, nuts, processed foods including canned ones, excess salt consumption etc all are best avoided. Avoid raw foods in general as well since this may increase exposure and chances of infections. Additionally, flesh foods, excepting properly cooked fresh water fish, lean poultry etc all, are best avoided too as this may complicate her constipation issues. Hope this helps. Do take care, and all the very best.
