My son is 30 yrs. He went uk in 2007 for m. Sc. Engg. Stayed upto 2011 and returned without study working in petrol bunk and continued on applying for studying diplomas. As some one threatened to murder he returned india. We shown physician, neurologist, psychologist, who diagnosed as paranoid psychosis, referred to psychrotrist who gave treatment by resperidal consta injection monthly two with other medicenes for one and half year. We stopped medicene for 4months he become aggressive, later consulted another psychrotist, on diagnosis as sizophernia, he is giving treatment with medicene he is normal in behaviour and in every thing but not doing any thing simply eats, watching tv and most of the time spent on sleeping the treatment is being taken. I am a retired employee my retirement benefits gone for clearing his education loans etc, and another sons education loan. He is not doing any thing and moreover say to send back any country, and says he is not able to stay in hyderabad, I am in confusion what to do now. He is b. Tech mech. Engg, completed english course in uk, first semester m. Sc. Engg, automotive studied, and incompleted the course though stayed for 5 yrs there. Kindly advise me I am his fater.

This is a condition he has to deal with more vigorously and always with your support. Under the medication and under the influence of this disease he will feel dysfunctional. You will have to put him on a tight schedule of activities and make him more involved in life. Now, the problem as I see it is that you have not taken him for therapy parallel with the medication; which is the way to help him, ideally. He is spending too much time passively. He has to be put on a schedule of vigorous exercise and include yoga and guided meditation too. He can go for occupational therapy, and live a life as a contributor. Even if he spends time at home, it is possible to engage him with domestic activities, some marketing etc? an idle mind is a devil? s workshop, and I cannot tell you how true this is for a schizophrenic. If he has time to himself, he will internalize his thoughts, which can run wild like noodle soup, and lead to the further deterioration of his mental health. He has probably done this for years and so to get him out of this passive state itself may be a task. But you must do it for his own good and for that of the family. Otherwise you could have a grown up adult behaving like a regressed child for life! he is overweight already and this too can pose many medical problems to compound the mental illness. It is still not too late and with some help and support from other family members much can still be done.
