I had braces for 2 and a half years and treatment was completed in 2013. The doctor took the imprints of my mouth and gave something to wear while sleeping. I was told to wear it for 6 months followed by a check up every 6 months. But the doctor didn't call me once after 2013. Neither does he picks up my call and I still wear those at night. What should I do? Should I discontinue wearing it or not? I'm afraid if I leave, the position would change a bit.

Hello lybrate-user, the thing which is given by your dentist is known as retainer, it is used to maintain the positions of the teeth after ortho treatment. There are two types of retainers removable and fixed. You are using removable type of retainer, it is used for six month along with proper activation by the dentist in each month visit.

Now you can quit wearing the retainer because it is only given for 6 months.
