Mr. Lybrate-user, prevention of diabetes is possible when diabetes has not developed. Once it has been diagnosed, then it can only be controlled with appropriate treatment. So if you already have diabetes then take care and control sugar levels as normal as possible. To achieve good control fasting should be closer to 100 mg, pp 150 to 160 mg and hba1c%<6.8. Diet has to be every individual specific, depending upon blood sugar level, hba1c%, extent of daily exercise and weight of the patient. Your diet should provide exact calories based on the details mentioned above. In the mean time, avoid sweets completely, also direct sugar and gur, no deep fried foods, junk foods, pastries, sweetened aerated drinks, high fat milk products, sweet corn syrup containing products and highly processed food products. Consume more of green leafy vegetables, salads, permitted fruits (100 g a day). Use whole grain flour, for chapati and rot. Do not use refined flour like maida. Avoid alcohol and smoking, adapting this modified lifestyle will help in controlling blood sugar better.
