Hi. I've asked other questions on here before, but this one is a bit different. Since I was about 7 or 8 years old until now at 21, I've always had these imaginary world's in my head. The story lines are based on me, and how I'd like my real life to be. I create these world's when I'm bored, sad, mad, happy, anxious. Even when things are going good in my life, I create these worlds. Sometimes neglecting to go out with friends and interact with others because I lay for hours day dreaming. Some say it's not a problem, for me it us. I'm a Christian, and these day dreams are often all I can think about, which means I'm putting it before GOD. It's hard for me to focus on GOD or anything sometimes because my life has been wrapped up in these day dreams. There were times the day dreams stopped for days, even weeks, at a time, but they always seem to find their way back and consume my mind. Although never diagnosed, I have many symptoms of anxiety, ocd and depression (runs in my family). Also, the world (the actual world) seems fake, I feel fake and unreal. Almost as if I'm a zombie, watching the world from a glass, although I'm actually here. I feel like there's a blind fold over my mind (not literally) Even looking in a mirror, I get this weird, unexplainable feeling. Sometimes I shortly snap out of it and realize I'm real and reality kicks in, but that never seems to last for long. I can't tell if I'm having mental or spiritual problems, and I really want help. Thanks.

Hi lybrate-user, I appreciate you seeking help. Your consistent anxiety/ depression could fuel your obsessive compulsion to day dream frequently. Given the description of your symptoms which is indicative of psychotic depression coupled with possible coexistence of mild schizophrenia, its indeed imperative that you meet up a psychiatrist in person without any further delay. Please understand that you do need treatment and that your condition is very much treatable with anti-depressants or medications as your consulting doc deems appropriate post examining you clinically. Possibility of hormonal/ chemical imbalances, if any, needs to be ruled out too. Nevertheless, I would hereby advise you to think positive, de-stress, exercise regularly and stay relaxed. Listening to soothing and melodious music of your choice may help you relax and focus. Similarly, aroma therapy with citrus oil or sweet smelling floral fragrances may also help alleviate your depressive symptoms and elevate mood positively. Simultaneously, make sure your diet/ nutrition, lifestyle including bowel habits etc all are streamlined. A mediterranean diet, enriched with plenty of leafy greens and fresh fruits, helps in this condition. Try including fresh cold water fishes like mackerel, salmon etc all into your diet too. Supplementation with omega-3 fatty acids, 500 mg to 1 gram daily, is known to help too in alleviating depression. Consuming citrus fruits/ vegetables rich in vitamin c helps strengthen immunity too. Try avoiding tea, coffee, and also high calorie foods including sweets, pastries etc all, however. Above all, please keep in mind that life does present us with varied challenges which sometimes are unpleasant to deal with. We, however, need to take every challenge that we are faced with, positively and think it as being an opportunity life has bestowed upon us mostly to evolve us and bring the best out of us. So stay mentally strong, have faith in him and you will get well soon. Do take care and I wish you all the very best.
