I think you have learnt this from your parents/grandparents or other important people, in your early childhood. But the good news is, you can" unlearn" this behaviour and" relearn" how to speak politely and softly. You can practice talking when you are alone, inside a closed room. After practising alone to speak softly, then while in public, please make conscious efforts, to speak slowly and softly. Tell yourself that you need to speak in a gentle voice and to achieve this, do not say anything on your own. Speak only when someone asks your opinion or when you need to talk. Make small sentences. Be careful while choosing your words. Make a list of words which you feel are harsh and try to replace it with milder words. Inform your family memebers about it so that they will not worry when they find you talking alone in a closed room. Please ask your family members and friends to help you in your efforts, by signalling you, when you start talking harshly/loudly. Many times it can be because of anxiety or anger. If you feel people are not listening to you then you are likely to talk in a louder voice. It there is some resentment or anger you are likely to use harsh words. Please check with yourself, what is happening. You already have awareness and acceptance about this, which is very appreicable. Now take the next step to make the necessary changes as mentioned above. All the best.
