Having a first degree relative with diabetes does indeed increase your chances of developing the same. But you can avoid it by following a healthy lifestyle. Eat and sleep on time avoid heavy meals at one time with long periods of fasting between 2 meals avoid/minimise fast food/oily food/ bakery products exercise regularly or atleast try to be more active. Eg walk instead of travelling by vehicle for short distances, use the stairs instead of lift drink more water eat more of fresh fruits and vegetables quit smoking in case you do.
