Id she has not had any injury to the knee then at this age it is most likely to be degenerative pathology. This needs to be confirmed with xrays. Blood investigation to rule out inflammatory arthritis may be required if there is family history of ra. The first line of management in degenerative knee pain is conservative with physiotherapy and pain control with over the counter simple analgesic.
