My friend suffers from depression and anxiety. Lot of negative thoughts and suicidal and isolation feelings hit her mind often. Does she need a psychiatrist?

Yes, she does need help. Suicide ideation is a dangerous and when she does act on it, it is normally an impulse. She can meet with a counselor first and if that person recommends that she meet with a doctor, then she must attend to both therapies, ideally. Do not waste any time and you can be of huge support to her in dealing with the depression and anxiety. These people tend to become lonely and withdrawn.
