Mr. Lybrate-user, diet of a person with diabetes has to be like every one, a balanced one. It should provide exact calories based on your ideal body weight (height in cms - 100 x 0.9 kgs), blood sugar levels and extent of daily exercise. Carbs should provide 55 to 60 % of the calories. Should include whole grains, whole grain flour, no refined flour (maida). Hand pounded rice can be used instead of polished one. Fats should give 20 to 30 % calories. Least from saturated fats, no trans fats (deep fried foods, processed foods), use vegetable oils with omega 3 and omega 6 fats. Proteins should give 15% calories. If non vegetarian then can consume lean meat, skinless chcken and fish about once or twice a week. Egg white is a good source of protein. Consumption of green leafy vegetables in good quantity is a must. Can consume fruits like papaya, pomegranate, water melon, apple, guava, pear, orange and sweet lime. (about 100 g a day).
