Hi, he is on combinations of so many medication which has its own side effects. When taken by males these medication do not have effect on new-born babies but would affect foetus if taken by females. Ocd - some patients can show reasonable resolve in their symptoms but most patients have some symptoms left despite on treatment. We say treatment is successful if severity of symptoms are reduced to the level of tolerability by patient. In addition to medications cbt is also recommended.

Dear Vivek, i doubt the diagnosis of OCD in your brother. OCD itself may be a symptom of a recurrent mood disorder. With the proper life story over many years about his low mood, OCD and high confidence mood, one can come to some understanding of his mood change - how often it occurs, how long it lasts, how severe it is after regular lithosun, etc. Are you worried about abnormality in the foetus? There no problem since he is not passing on the medicines to his child through his blood or milk. If you are worried about fathering by your brother, it is better to plan the child be born in his normal mood (euthymia) months.

He is being treated for ocd but also for another serious condition. It is not adviseable to have another child in this condition. If he is responding well to the current treatment, he will need to wait to see the improvement, and that he doesn't have any relapse for at least three years. For complete recovery, he needs to attend some counseling sessions and develop skills, techniques, and tools to deal with his condition. Medication alone will not suffice. This is a fear-based condition and for some reason he has not been dealing with some childhood fear which has now developed unto these repetitive adaptations to seem to need it for normal functioning. The behavior will then become based on magical thinking and certain rituals will become necessary to do normal things making him believe that either the frequency or the ritual is important to its success. This of course is a fallacy but there will come a time that even if told the truth, his belief will defy any logic and he will continue behaving like that even if it cripples him in his daily routines. It only appears as though some other force is behind these behaviors and that he is compelled to act in this fashion. That is obviously not true but no one can convince him of anything different. The obsession is a repeating thought pattern with no meaningful outcome; and the compulsiveness is the need to act on those obsessions also in a repeated behavior pattern as though he just cannot help himself. This is all driven by fear and when he is frustrated with it, he will escalate anger over it. Doubt, insecurity, uncertainty, and lack of firm memory will all plague him and increase stress. There are certain behavioral techniques to be implemented through counseling and if they work he may get out of this condition rather easily.
